Now go ahead and use your trusty electric carving knife to cut the f.oam.

Once you have cut it out, you will now have some extra f.oam that you will use for the top of the rail. Remove the two pieces of f.oam that are under the rail and set them aside. We are only going to be using the two scrap pieces you cut out in the middle.

Using your two middle pieces that you just cut out, go ahead and cut them again the same width as the rail. Using this method will give you two inches of f.oam on top of your rail and 1 inch on the sides.

Flip you rail over so the bottom is now down and spay the top of the rail with adhesive. I like to use 3M 77 that you can buy at Home Depot

Go ahead and finish putting on your pieces.

Now the top of your rail should be covered in 1 inch f.oam.

Now take the two pieces of f.oam that you cut out in the beginning and set aside. Lay them down again and put the rail face down

Now we are getting ready to bend the f.oam around the rail and glue it on the sides. you may want to protect the bottom side of the rail so you do not get over spray. I used masking tape to cover the bottom lip of the rail to keep the glue off. Now just spray the side of the rail AND the f.oam. Remove the tape and wait about 45 secs or so for the glue to become tacky. If you try and put on the f.oam right after you applied the glue, it may not stick very well. Wait for the glue to become tacky.
